DATA-DRIVEN INSTRUCTION
Data-Driven Instruction uses information gathered from learning results to determine what should come next instructionally. In a classroom, data comes in two forms: formative and summative.
Formative Data is information gathered as teaching and learning are occurring.
Summative Data is the information gathered at the end of a learning period, to include a unit of study or a district level assessment period.
Effective teachers collect both forms of data and analyze it to look for patterns of success and needs. This allows for teachers to make adjustments in their instructional practices. In many instances, this adjustment paves the way for Differentiated Instruction.
GENERAL EDUCATION
The State Board of Education (SBOE) has legislative authority to adopt the TEKS for each subject of the required curriculum. SBOE members nominate educators, parents, business and industry representatives, and employers to serve on TEKS review committees. The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills Review by Subject area web page provides information regarding the SBOE’s process and current and previous reviews.
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
School districts in Texas, including Charters and Districts of Innovation are responsible for ensuring compliance with Texas Education Code (TEC) for Bilingual Education and ESL Programs, within the Texas Administrative Code.
